Ever notice how the words “anxiety” and “depression” are almost always together?
Being anxious can be very stressful, and consistent stress often leads to depression; and depression is not a cool place to be. Depression can happen to anyone no matter how happy they may appear; I know first-hand the hopeless, dark feeling that is depression. It can happen at anytime and can often be so difficult to combat – in these moments I try hard to get alone time to meditate on my blessings and pray. If you are facing sadness or depression there are a few things you can do each day that really help.
When we are constantly rushing through life with so much to do and so little time it is easy to lose patience and constantly feel anxious – we soon develop a constant feeling of anxiety until at some points we do not even know what we are anxious about.
Even the centuries old Bible speaks of anxiety several times, one of my go-to verses is this one below:
Roman 12:12 “Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray at all times.”
Regardless of how well organised we try to be with life or how perfectly we may plan things – there will always be something that gets missed or something that pops out of no where on to our already packed task list.
- It is important to remember to be patient, set realistic goals for yourself and others, and always make sure to set realistic time frames (with a little EXTRA time too). Setting a deadline for accomplishing your tasks and goals which can reasonably be accommodated within your daily life schedule is very important. If you set unrealistic goals or deadlines and do not manage to accomplish them this can trigger or increase that disgusting state of anxiety and depression – and God knows we do not want that to happen!
- Understanding and reminding yourself that we are only human and there is only so much that can get done in a day is important too – do not stretch your day too thin.
- Don’t be so hard on yourself and give yourself credit whenever you accomplish even the smallest task on your to-do list.
You can do this, I can do this, we can do this – this life is what we were born to conquer so do not think for a minute that you cannot live through or handle anything that comes your way. The strength to go on and be happy is all within you; it has always been there, it just takes some serious effort some times for us to find it and use it.
I am on this journey with you trying to find a peaceful place on a chaotic life plain; but I will be patient in my search and continue to meditate on my blessings, giving thanks daily for all I have, especially my children.
