I am not going to ramble on too much here; but reading to your little one/s is the single best thing you can do to support them academically when all else is in shambles. Some days it is just easier to pick up a book, sit your toddler on your lap and read – versus -printing 10 sheets of work from their teachers’ most recent emails, finding where the heck they put the pencils and crayons since last time and cleaning the now dried paint off the table so you can start “teaching”.
Reading to your child helps to lengthen their attention span which in-turn allows them to stay focused on a single task and overall supporting their learning ability like nothing else can. Hearing the words and their parent’s voice is calming and soothing to your munchkin and when you choose the right books the experience can be rewarding for parent and child.
I am fortunate to have a neat collection of colorful children’s books that have always offered us a fun outlet to release energy, learn something new, indulge in some giggles and cuddle close – but we have read them all!
With no chance of getting to the book store and the unpredictable nature of online ordering while being on this little island I have turned to eBooks lately, but oh how I prefer to turn pages haha! Having the ability to keep a fresh batch of books handy and accessible has been great though and the girls enjoy the digital page turning process despite me preferring the old-fashioned flipping. There are so many benefits to reading and we hear that all the time – it will always be a firm truth.
